What Is An RFID Card?

Technology for EVs is moving forward at an incredible pace - and RFID cards are a key part of that. Whilst carrying a contactless payment card or device has become the norm; you might be worried that, with ever changing charging options and charger types that you’ll be left behind.
Well, this is where RFID cards come in - the new accessory for EV Drivers.
Let us help dispel the myths and tell you more about RFID cards.
What does RFID stand for and how does it work?
Let’s answer the first part of our question - RFID stands for radio frequency identification.
The technology works wirelessly through communication between an RFID tag and a RFID tag reader, using the tags unique identifier to inform an action.
These are often installed in mobiles, tablets, payment cards, access cards and in security tags on items.
You’ll have encountered - and potentially even used - at least once RFID in your life, especially if you're an experienced Apple Pay user!
Why would I use an RFID card for my EV charging?
Due to their unique identifiers and built-in connectivity, RFID cards are a convenient way to pay or - if linked to an app - store up your charging sessions before paying in bulk.
Having an RFID card unique to charging means you can track your charging sessions more easily, away from your other payment and loyalty cards.
RFIDs can store information, too, meaning they can be linked to individual user accounts.

The simple answer is not currently. GRIDSERVE does not have its own RFID card solution.
