  • Roadchef is one of Britain's leading roadside service area businesses, operating at 30 Motorway and Major Trunk Road Service Area locations covering the length and breadth of the country. The company has been serving the needs of the travelling public for over 40 Years.

    Famously, Roadchef are the proud owner and operators of Watford Gap, the first and most iconic MSA in the UK, which opened its doors on 2nd November 1959 and in 2009, celebrated its 50th Anniversary.

    We also operate an impressive portfolio of leading catering, retail and accommodation brands from Costa and McDonald's to WHSmith and Days Inn, not to mention our own in house catering brands featuring The Fresh Food Cafe, serving piping hot meals every time from a contemporary food servery. All sites have leading oil company branded filling stations.

    Roadchef was acquired by Antin Infrastructure Partners (“Antin IP”) on 30th September 2014. Antin IP is a leading independent European private equity firm specialising in infrastructure investments. Founded in 2007, Antin IP is wholly owned by its nine Partners and has a team of over 35 professionals comprising 15 nationalities. With over €3 billion in assets under management, Antin IP aims to create value through active management and a focused investment approach, concentrating on taking controlling stakes in infrastructure businesses in Europe.

  • Roadchef operates within the UK MSA sector and is managed by an experienced team, led by Chief Executive Mark Fox, who has over 25 years experience in the hospitality sector. Mark has previously held senior roles as Managing Director of the UK divisions of both Starbucks and Pizza Hut, as well as Chief Executive Officer of casual dining chain Bill’s Restaurants.

    Mark is supported by Roadchef Chairman Simon Turl, who has over 35 years experience in the hospitality sector, with the majority of this gained within the Motorway Service Area industry.

    The Roadchef business now employs over 3,500 people, cares for over 52 million visitors per year, serves a million breakfasts, 500,000 portions of fish and chips and five million coffees and our catering operation alone turns over £120 million per annum, out of a total turnover of £200 million.

    Under the ownership of Antin Infrastructure Partners who acquired the business in 2014, we’ve delivered a major investment programme across our portfolio to significantly improve our offering. Further improvements to catering and retail will be implemented alongside improvements to infrastructure including the all-important toilet facilities.

    Roadchef is proud to have completed the first ever UK corporate franchise agreement with McDonald’s which allowed us to add the famous golden arches to our offer. We are very proud to be able to provide our customers with the exciting, high quality and great value McDonald’s menu at our locations right across the country. More recently, we have introduced other popular high street catering brands to some of our service areas, including Pret A Manger and the first LEON restaurants on the motorway network. This is alongside developing our retail offer with the introduction of SPAR grocery stores and a trial Boots store. We love to keep things fresh and we’re trialling new offers on a continuous basis.

    Another significant change to our catering portfolio saw the introduction of our in-house brand, Fresh Food Café. This combines a contemporary branded restaurant with the latest back of house cooking equipment, improving food quality and speed of service. As the name suggests, the focus is on fresh food and the menu includes many items not normally seen in a Motorway Service Area from delicious healthy meals to the more indulgent traditional favourites.

    And finally, as a mark of the focus that Roadchef places on our people, we are extremely proud to have been awarded “Investors in People Gold” accreditation for the way in which we manage, support and develop our people. Less than 100 companies in the UK hospitality industry have achieved this accolade and we are thrilled that the efforts of everyone in the business have been properly recognised. We also ask our team to nominate a charity that we can support on a rolling 2 year basis. Our charity partner from 2016-2018 was the Midlands Air Ambulance and we raised £534,952 during that time. In 2018, the employees of Roadchef chose Cancer Research UK as our charity partner and we are now hosting, organising and participating in numerous events around the country to raise funds for this amazing charity.

    All of the investment and the hard work of the Roadchef team have seen our performance in the annual Transport Focus survey improve continuously. In 2018 our site at Norton Canes on the M6 Toll was voted the UK’s best motorway service area in this independent survey of over 9,000 road users. Our Stafford site moved into second place in the same survey which gives us great confidence that our customers recognise and appreciate the improvements we’ve been making.

    So, with ever more vehicles using the UK’s motorway network and our presence at some of the most strategic locations, Roadchef is very well placed to continue to break new ground in customer experience and satisfaction.
